Alas poor Sony we knew him well

Sony Dead!!

Our Sony Digital Camera has given up the ghost after 3 years of faithful service. Since buying it back in New Zealand before leaving for our OE, it’s taken pictures in 30 degree C in Morocco and -20 degrees in Norway. Perhaps these temperature extremes have lead to the shutter refusing to open all of the time…

So we now have two new camera’s
Cannon PowerShot S3 IS: Well actually this one we have actually has since Morocco.
Basicaly I couldn’t get a Cap Ex from Susan for digital SLR but wanted something a bit more grunty… with 12x zoom and a host of other features, this fit the bill.

Panasonic DMC FX01: The PowerShot is a little too complex for Susan to take snaps on. Also it’s a bit bulky for those inconspicuous travel pics. This compact has a 28 mm lens, image stabilisation and a simple mode. We are taking it to Iceland this weekend so hopefully will get some good pics with it for you.

In the meantime here’s one Susan prepared earlier:
Susan and Me

P.S. If you are looking at getting a digital camera it’s worth checking out:

Can you help build a website quickly?

by James on Jul.16, 2006, under Christian Stuff, Techy stuff and Webpage

This weekend was spent mostly in front of my laptop trying to build get an updated website for our church. I started with simple html and css but after staying up till 1am last night I have decided to move on to a content management system called Joomla.

Anyway the development site is located at http://pipnjay.org.uk/joomla/

Do you have time to help? Please contact me, I need as many hands to the pump as possible!

Perhaps you can just help me with what you would like to see on a church webpage.

One Thousand

by James on Mar.01, 2006, under Techy stuff and Webpage

Today my site reached 1000 hits. We actually plenty more than 1000 but just 1000 since I started keeping count using JVisitors.

There no big surprise the majority of visitors come from United Kingdom followed shortly by NZ. Sadly the 1000th visitor was me.

Still Alive

by James on Feb.07, 2006, under General, Techy stuff and Webpage

Just in case you are wondering we are still here and haven’t frozen to death in the -4 degree temperature.
Church has been a little hectic recently and we in the midst of trying to kick off a young persons gathering at Pip n Jay.

Norway trip plan
Susan is still busy planning our trip to Norway in March. We have booked ourselves in for 6 hours husky dog sledding in Roros.
We also going skiing in Lillehammer and mainly trying to keep warm. Susan has been fanatically surfing the net looking for thermals and balaclava’s.

Website
You may notice I have removed the sidebar link to our gallery from the main page. I know the web gallery has been particularly slow lately so I’m trying my best to improve performance.

Cha Cha Changes

by James on Aug.21, 2005, under Techy stuff and Webpage

If you have been coming to this site for a long time you may have noticed major overhaul of this site. I have started using a bloging program called Wordpress rather than Movable type. Apart from that underlying change what you may notice is the following:
• The About us, Faith and Contact us sections have been added to help you to get to know us.
• You can now see who else is online while you are. (Look at the Site Stats area of the sidebar.
• You can also set the weather for your local city and it will update every time the page is refreshed.
• I have tried to fully integrate our picture gallery with the blog. (Still WIP)

Please let me know what you think.
