¡Hola! we are back from Barcelona

¡Hola!
We just got back from Spain today. Sorry that I didn’t get round to sending an update from Barcelona but it was quite a whirlwind trip.

The weather was pretty good, not the hottest but I won’t moan as Berlin will probably be a lot cooler later this month.

The highlight of our trip was probably Casa Batlio, which is one of the strangest residential building Susan and I have ever seen. It was designed by Gaudi and its known to the locals as the house of bones. We paid a little extra to go up to the roof which has recently been opened to the public. There are no straight lines in the building as Gaudi is influenced by organic and natural aspects. The whole building has loads of porcelain and wood, Gaudi even started early recycling reusing many of the previous building materials.

Palau de la Musica Catalana was a fantastic opera house we visited. It is privately owned so we needed to go on one of the two guided tours to see the amazing stained glass dome.

Each morning we stumbled out of bed around 9:30am and found the same cheap pastry place where Susan would get her sugar coated donut. The Spaniards like their hot chocolate (xocolata) so thick you need to eat it so we felt it was compulsory to drink/eat a few of those too.

The other good drink apart from the best Starbucks Latte I have ever had (okay I needed coffee to go) was Sangria de Cava. Although it sounds like Fijians have got to Barcelona it’s basically an early form of Spanish ‘Ready to Drink’. Take Sangria wine and Cava a sweet sparking wine, lemon, apple and cinnamon and you have a hangover waiting to happen.

We also ate a lot of vegetarian while in Barcelona, which I was quite surprised about as I thought we were in a meat loving country. Mind you I think it was more luck than anything else finding Vegie takeaway falafels and a funky veggie restaurant called Organic.

We had a great time but I’m glad to be back with my lamb chops.

Anyway the photos are here

¡Adiós!
