Hong Kong
I’m a Meat and Two Veg Boy

I have discovered that traditional Asian food doesn’t agree with me. I have tried unusual deep fried chicken wings and noodle soup. But I struggle to know quite what to do so ended up whacking the whole lot together and hoping the local school children having lunch in the same restaurant won’t laugh too much. Last night we had Japanese. I quick like tempura but ordered a set menu where a load of raw fish kept turning up. Thankfully I didn’t order the beef main as I think that was raw too.. I think I like my meat as least a little browned. I also struggle with chop sticks so the whole Asian dinning experience is a bit of an ordeal.
Hong Kong – The Neon Jewel of Asia
by James on Dec.09, 2005, under Hong Kong
It’s been pretty warm in Hong Kong. Not hot but the humidity keeps the place very pleasant shorts weather even though it’s winter and all the locals are wrapped up. If shopping is your past time then this is the place. In fact it’s a mall rats paradise, so much so that the malls merge into each other so you don’t ever need to go outside. Compared to Bangkok, Hong Kong seemed much cleaner and safer. Rather than pick pockets one of my main worries while walking down side streets a night was not knocking over all short people by accident.
We spent our first morning quickly looking around and then went on a city tour for the afternoon where we went to Man Mo Temple followed by Victoria Peak and then onto a fishing village. It was an interesting trip but I think the best way to experience the culture was when we walked around the back streets of Whan Chai looking at the local shops. You can buy absolutely anything there from live crabs wrapped in flax to ipod covers and even a few kitchen sinks.
At night the place really starts to get humming all the Neon lights come on a loads of the shops stay open pass 10pm. Our street happens to be in the strip club area of town. It’s a consequence of the American GI’s R and R activities during the Vietnam War. God Bless America huh?
In Hong Kong
by James on Nov.26, 2005, under Hong Kong, New Zealand, OE
We woke up on Friday morning to snow.
Much of England grinded to a standstill.

Fortunately our flight was still going (even if a little delayed).
We are now in Hong Kong. I’m not really sure what time it is here maybe 8pm. It’s either midday UK time for us or 1am NZ time… a bit hard for us to decide at the moment..
Well looking forward to getting home
